Changing an electrical panel can sometimes be a debatable investment, but it’s above all a preventive one.

The number-one danger of an old electrical panel comes from its circuit breakers. This is particularly true of certain brands… the most famous of all being “Stab-Lok”. These will often remain “On” when the tab is “Off”, or fail to trip in the event of a fault.

A reliable circuit breaker will cut off power to a faulty circuit, preventing wires from literally going up in smoke.

Specifically for a panel change, our first choice of brand is Siemens. Its internal construction makes the job easier, as its neutral bar runs vertically through the entire chassis. As electrical wires are often short, reconnecting them is quicker.

However, another highly reputed modern brand is Square-D. It’s a little more expensive in terms of materials, and can take longer to connect when changing panels. Let us know in your inquiry if this is the brand you want!
