Replacing an electrical panel can sometimes be a debatable investment, but it’s above all a preventive one.

The number-one danger of an old electrical panel comes from its circuit breakers. This is particularly true of certain brands… the most famous of all being Stab-Lok. These will often remain “On” when the tab is “Off”, or fail to trip in the event of a fault.

A reliable circuit breaker will cut off power to a faulty circuit, preventing wires from literally going up in smoke.

Specifically for an electrical panel upgrade, our first choice of brand is Siemens. Its internal construction makes work easier, as the neutral bar runs vertically through the entire chassis. As electrical wires are often short, they can be reconnected more quickly.

However, another highly reputed modern brand is Square-D. It’s a little more expensive in terms of materials, and can take longer to connect when changing panels.
